The Way of the Traditional Blog is Dead

When someone typically thinks of a “blog”, they might think of a personal recap on a period of time. Maybe they think of diary-style articles. Recipes, perhaps? While I sometimes do enjoy speaking on current events in my personal life, I don’t want this blog to be just that. It’s not just a personal decision either. Search around different bloggers’ pages and you’ll see many devolving into something niche. While I have my suspicions behind the reasons why, I think with good evidence I can say that the way of the traditional blog is dead.

The percentage of people that even read blogs is miniscule. As example, outside of my own (duh), I don’t read many blogs. Maybe I catch a blog post about the Celtics or Liverpool, but even then I don’t often have the time. I’d much rather take in the information through podcast form instead. This, doubled with the fact that most people don’t love listening to someone rant about their life, I wanted to make an announcement.

Unique Blogs

If you’ve been noticing the change in my blogs, congratulations. I’ve attempted to veer some of my more recent content away from personal experiences and feelings, and write more about unique subjects. Life can be drawl. Let’s not lie to ourselves. I don’t have that interesting of a life. At a point, I did, but now I’m settled down, working full weeks and taking care of my cats, myself, and my girlfriend. I write short stories and novels and blogs on the side. I occasionally watch TV and play video games. Who wants to hear about what I ate (spoiler alert: the same thing I always eat) and how I read my book outside? No one, because the traditional blog is dead.

I have a desire to learn which constantly occupies my brain power and sometimes makes writing while focused hard. As a kid, I used to go on Wikipedia and click the “random article” button and just read everything on the page. It would be a fun little exercise to use my brain power after school or practice. Back in November, I interviewed a friend who was amazing enough to let me learn more about their profession. Since then, I’ve been so engaged in learning more and creating these well-crafted articles. While the content of these blogs won’t always be 100% researched articles. The last blog post I wrote took over ten hours of research. I don’t always have the time to do something like that. But, I give my word that I will always work my hardest on these blogs.

Podcast?

It’s time to spill the beans just a little bit. I plan on making a podcast in the near future where I’ll be discussing philosophy, reading, and how the two intertwine more often than you may think. The title, the cover, and who I’ll be working with is still in the works, but I hope that the podcast will be able to start rolling out soon.

I used to listen to podcasts on a daily basis. I threw one on when I drove to and from home, when I was waiting for class, and working. Podcasts have meant a lot to me and I’ve talked endlessly about starting one of my own in the past. A good friend of mine, Riley, and I would talk while hiking together of all the fun things that we could talk about. It’s a dream in the making and I’m so happy with this decision and believe it’s a great stepping stone for my career.

I appreciate the support by everyone on the website, blogs, and everything in between. I hope to see the support when the podcast first rolls out, which will be announced soon. To all of those who say, “It’s just another white guy with a podcast”, I can’t argue. There’s some poorly made podcasts of dudes just talking your ears off. However, my aim will be to focus solely on philosophy and reading for those interested. For now, stay tuned for the non-traditional blog posts releasing in the near future.
