I want to start a new little monthly blog post series where I’ll detail some specific things that have helped me get through the month. Depending on how busy my month is, I might do something as simple as shouting out my car or phone. Other times, when I have specific examples, I’ll highlight those very things. This new segment will be called “Things that got me through the week” or TTGMTTM for short, because the world loves acronyms.
1. First off, I want to give incredible due to one of the best inventions I bought in college which is a phone holder in my car. This phone holder latches onto the air vent right next to my radio at eye level. Not only just this month has it been an extreme help in guiding me places I don’t know where I am, but in college too. I made a few drives to Vermont and Portsmouth this month and without my directions at eye-level, I may have just passed by my stops.
Not only is this contraption godly when it comes to directions, it gives me an easier way to change music. See, I’m an individual that doesn’t really enjoy FM or SiriusXM radio. I want to play my own music through an aux cable. Sometimes, however, I’m just not feeling the vibe of a song. Now, I can easily click on my phone and click skip song while not needing to take my eyes off the road.
You can find it here on Amazon (this is the exact model I bought, but make sure your phone would fit before purchasing).
2. In the last month, buffalo chicken has been one of my most desired and eaten options when it comes to food. I know that many people may not enjoy buffalo, and some even have a hard time describing it. Is it hot, or is it spicy? It’s hot, but I don’t know how to elaborate on what “hot” is any further than just saying that.
I’ve eaten buffalo chicken in a variety of ways over the past month. I’ve had fried chicken straight up with buffalo sauce dripped over it, I’ve had homemade buffalo chicken subs using buffalo sauce and buffalo coating, I’ve had homemade chicken with homemade buffalo coating, I’ve had buffalo chicken subs purchased from other places, and I’ve also had buffalo chicken sandwiches (do wraps count as sandwiches? If not, add buffalo chicken wraps).
There’s just something about the texture of chicken with something hot to eat it with. I also enjoy various hot sauces that could be considered spicy (like Melinda’s Habanero Honey Mustard) or cooler sauces like ranch or blue cheese.
3. The last thing that really helped me this month was hanging out and getting food and drinks with friends. Living over thirty minutes away from my hometown (where most of my friends still live, when not in college), I don’t get to see my friends very often. We do talk almost every night and play video games together, but it’s not comparable to seeing each other in person.
Two weeks ago, after my first week of work, I went to a Japanese steakhouse (ordered Pad Thai lol) and hung out with four of my closest friends. It was funny watching Glenn struggle with chopsticks and it was great to see people I hadn’t seen in what felt like years. Afterwards, by the grace of God, I convinced them to come to a bar afterwards and we shared a four-pack (which we weren’t supposed to, and got chewed out by the owner, but were allowed to stay).
Over this most recent weekend, I got to see two other friends along with two of the same from the other weekend. It was more of a drink-oriented night where we got cocktails and beers and just talked. I didn’t eat dinner though and ordered some grub. There’s just something about sitting and talking with friends over drinks. It’s something that goes way under the radar in life, because it’s so simple. But realistically, it needs to be done more often. Some people that you’ve known for years can still have stuff to say you’ve never heard which is crazy, but fun.
-1. I’ll also throw in a wild card every month, which would be something I could easily go without in my life. For this month, I want to pick “boxholder mail”. Now, what is boxholder mail you might ask? Boxholder mail is what we call mail that needs to be delivered to every single mailbox on our mail routes. They could be a letter or a “flat” (usually a magazine type of thickness).
What sucks about these is it could make a seven and a half hour day into a nine hour day. It adds just that little bit more of time to every day, and I can no longer make it home before dinner. One thing I strongly dislike is having to “take credit” for delivering the boxholder mail. What credit am I getting? I’m not getting paid anymore than what I would be, am I? It’s blasphemous.
Today’s cover image is my Dad and I after building a makeshift igloo. There were a lot of good pictures to choose from today, but this one means a lot.
