The Return of the King (Me)

It’s been over five months since my last entry, and like a diabetic to insulin, I couldn’t stay away. It’s been a very busy past several months in the world of writing. I’ve taken a lot of time to work on large projects, I started taking classes again, and I’ve subscribed and unsubscribed to Xbox GamePass more times than I would feel comfortable mentioning. I’ve been working on finding my writer’s voice, which is especially important for writing, whether it’s poetry, fiction, or non-fiction. One author I’ve been reading that has arguably the best “voice” I’ve ever seen is Neal Stephenson. He is a master of satire and science-fiction, two things that surprisingly go really well together.

When I was writing back at the end of last year, I was pressuring myself to write an article once a week. I sometimes saw bloggers post once a day, or more realistically, once every other day. As I started to find myself on the blog every single day, I grew incredibly tired. I stopped my subscription to WordPress, but held onto my domain just in case. With the newly-found free time, I dedicated at least an hour a day into writing and editing my novel, which I plan on releasing over the summer (date not yet set).

In these five months (which have felt like a lot longer), I’ve been able to self-reflect on my writing and voice a lot. I’ve been able to form ideas for blog posts all without the stress of having to write them as soon as I’ve thought of them. I’ve given a lot of thought to what this blog will begin to look like for the grand year of 2026.

2026 Goals and Future

While we’re a little bit late for New Years’ Resolutions, I figured I should set some goals for 2026. The goals are a way of checking my progress in relation to what has been accomplished, what needs to be worked on, and what I completely failed with (which is totally fine, but it gives me perspective, which is extremely important). Let’s highlight some of these goals and future plans.

1. Beacon Chasers: If you haven’t known yet, now you know. Beacon Chasers will be the official name of my first novel, a cyberpunk science-fiction thriller. It follows the character, Edward Girst, on his way from being a nobody to a somebody in the fictional city of Douk, Korea. While the release date isn’t currently set, expect it to release in late June or early July.

2. Stories of the North: Another large project I’ve been putting off to prioritize the novel is Stories of the North, a collection of short stories all set in New Hampshire or around the New England area. I’ve been working on writing these short stories since 2022 (well, it wasn’t in mind at that time, but the earliest story I’ll be pulling for the collection is from 2022). Most stories I’ve written are from 2023 and 2024 when I was living back in New Hampshire after graduation. Most stories deal with the “weird” reality, altering reality ever so slightly, while some are set in worlds with nothing particular, just human interactions. I’m really excited for this one; I just have to finish the editing process.

3. Blog Goals: As I’ve renewed my website for another year, I want to focus again on writing blog posts. These will not be targeted towards games, or random information, but rather things I’ve learned through writing, editing, and reading. I’ll share books I’ve read and what I think of them. I want to give back to the writing community by sharing things I’ve learned in the last couple of years. I will talk directly about my own writing and market myself as a writer and editor. Most importantly, I won’t force myself to write endlessly just to write. Things I write will be decided upon, ideas long needing elaboration. I won’t post “Xbox GamePass games to look forward to in May 2026”.

In Short, Welcome Back

In short, this is my official return to blogging. It’s not the traditional type of blog, where I’m showcasing places I’ve traveled to or recipes you need to bake. Writer’s blogs exist, although far and few between. Even while writing this, I’m starting to run out of content for this specific post. Instead of going on and on for hours, trying to continue to a certain length, I’ll stop here. So thank you all, and I’m glad to be returning.
