As I’m still waiting to begin work at the end of the month, I’ve finally decided to fall into a daily routine. It helps me budget the correct amount of time for things I desire to finish/work on, as well as puts me into the idea of a schedule since college. I think I’ll for today, I’ll just highlight what happens in the average day for me.
I start the day with waking up sometime between 8am to 10am. It varies from day to day, and sometimes I’ll wake up earlier or later, but on average I would say it’s about 9am. From there, I’ll work on checking my texts and emails as not to miss anything important. I’ll get out of bed after fifteen minutes of idly scrolling on my phone and begin the search for food.
Usually, I don’t even eat breakfast. I mostly eat lunch, which could mean I’m eating lunch around 10:30. It’s also around this time that if there are errands to run, I would be getting ready to drive to grab groceries or run the other errands. So, if errands are to be run, I would be arriving back home by 1pm at the latest. If not, then I’m working on my website or watching TV in the early parts of the day.
After this, I begin my reading and writing stage. As an encouragement to start reading more, I make myself read at minimum 10 pages of a story, book, or novel. However, this sometimes is a rough limit because if I’m reading a short story collection (like I currently am), I will read the entirety of the story. It serves as a warmup to get me in the writing mood.
My low line for how much I need to write per day is one page a day. At that rate, I should be able to finish my novel by the end of May. But I do want to finish it by April, so some days when I have more inspiration, I will write 2-3 pages based on the excitement I have. After that, if I’m still in the mood to write more, I’ll write in a short story in my mind. Yesterday, I began a small story called “The Imprisonment of Mr. Bouchard”. Details will come soon, hopefully.
I workout everyday on the treadmill between 3pm to 5pm, usually working for an hour. It’s simple to throw on the television and just walk, which is mostly what I do. I used to workout late at night, but I found that it’s better for my body to workout just before mealtime.
The day usually takes a turn after that. I’ll make dinner for myself, and then I’ll aimlessly walk around the house in circles. My friends typically get on games around 6:30, so the aimless walking stops around then and I’ll settle down to play games with friends. Other times, I just enjoy the company to talk with even if I’m not playing the same game.
I’ll finish games around 8:30-9, and most likely throw on a show or movie to watch in the living room. I might play a video game on my laptop on the side, but my focus is more detailed towards the movie.
My day concludes by talking to my wonderful girlfriend. We talk for various times every night, but we always make sure to get at least one “goodnight” and “I love you” in before we depart our separate ways. And in wrap, that’s an average day for a guy like me.
