September Game Releases That Have Me Hooked

Another month comes and goes and we’re more than halfway through 2025! September looks to be an exciting month for gamers with some big (AAA) and smaller (indie) releases. From a Mickey Mouse copycat to the fourth installment of the famous Borderlands, we have a lot to look forward to. Without any further delay, let’s get into some of September’s hot new releases.

Bad Cheese – September 1st

The new public domain horror, Bad Cheese, has you assume the position of a mouse staying at home with a dysfunctional Dad. Keep Daddy happy. It follows a traditional path of scary cartoon characters originally designed for children (FNAF, Poppy’s Playtime, etc.) that most indie games find themselves wandering down. It’s not all bad though. We’ve seen games replicating the older animation style in the past, with games like Cuphead or Bendy and the Ink Machine, but Bad Cheese takes a different approach from both. The price point seems comfortable for the content provided.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants – September 4th

The first and perhaps only DLC to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle releases on September 4th, revolving around the Nephilim giants. This DLC will see the famous archeologist return to the Vatican, amongst other places, solving mysteries, uncovering secrets, and perhaps, discovering the order of giants, as the namesake adds. For the right price, this might be the best release of the month.

Void Crew – September 4th

Sea of Thieves meets space? Void Crew is a new co-op game for 2-6 people that brings you to space to operate your very own spacecraft. You’ll divide workload between friends to shoot down other spaceships, collect space junk and loot, and zoom between planets. This isn’t the typical “enter, steal loot, extract” sort of game so often seen on Steam nowadays. This is a full co-op experience that utilizes communication and hard work to operate a spacecraft. I can see this game churning out a fanbase similar to Sea of Thieves, with constant care and love from the dev team.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – September 4th

September 4th seems to be the day for releases, including Hollow Knight’s sequel, Silksong. The 2D metroidvania will bring players to a whole new level of gameplay, difficulty, and excitement. Hollow Knight built up an extremely large following with the first game’s atmosphere, music, and unique art direction. Now, 8 years later, after so many years of waiting, the original fans will have something to be happy about. New fans are recommended to play through the first before taking the daring step into Silksong.

Hell Is Us – September 4th

Our last major September 4th release is Hell Is Us, an action-adventure that promises a different style of game. The kicker here is, there’s no map feature. This, in turn, forces players to remember landscapes and pay attention to their surroundings. There’s no quest markers or guides. Despite what it may look like, Hell Is Us is not a souls-like, which may encourage some fans to try it out. For those gamers who are looking for less of a game and more of an experience, look no further.

Borderlands 4 – September 12th

Now hopefully the four releases on the fourth will keep you busy until the 12th, when Borderlands 4 releases. It’s been six long years for Borderlands fans to receive the fifth in the Borderlands series. The game will follow the graphic novel style of animation in past games with hours and hours of action-packed adventures. Just like the previous game, Borderlands 4 will be a great co-op play for those closest to you. With a brand new arsenal of weaponry, the enemies in front of you never stood a chance. If you enjoyed previous Borderlands, well, you’ve probably already pre-ordered this one. But, if you’re looking for a great story with tons of gun-shooting action, Borderlands 4 will provide.

Lego Voyagers – September 15th

Lego Voyagers is a cute coop game where you and one other person take places of two single brick Lego pieces, working to traverse a lengthy journey. It’s not all easy though; you’ll have to overcome both puzzles and obstacles in your way on the way to the finish line. While not telling as powerful a story as some other games, the story and lessons you’ll learn are just as important.

Jump Space – September 19th

Now, you may think Void Crew is a Sea of Thieves in space, but critics have actually called Jump Space the very thing. Some people have even mixed it with Starfield and Helldivers 2, two games most are very fond of. Jump Space will host smaller co-op teams (1-4), and focus on missions of looting and surviving. You’ll be able to manage your own spaceship, make repairs when needed, and ration your resources, just like Sea of Thieves. While other games have a heavy focus on PvP, Jump Space will prioritize PvE, adding PvP on the side.

Silent Hill F – September 25th

Silent Hill takes a complete 180 degree turn and leaves the small, eerie town of Silent Hill. It brings us to a rural Japanese town invaded by creatures from Japanese myth and legend. There will be a bigger focus on the combat aspect, especially through melee. Another new feature new to longtime Silent Hill fans is a resource management system, similar to open-world survival games. The new setting provides ample opportunity to succeed in a saturated horror market.

Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny – September 30th

Nickelodeon is known for releasing games with their stellar cast of animated characters. Some games include racing games like Nicktoons Racing, Nickelodeon Kart Racers, or platform brawlers, like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. The next game in the Nickelodeon grouping is Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny. This game will be a top-down RPG similar to Diablo, although more tuned to younger audiences. You’ll be able to play as Spongebob or Timmy Turner fighting evil monsters. The animation style looks quite peculiar as well with inspiration from late 90s, early 2000s gaming.

Various Sport Releases

Every year, certain game studios send out a new edition of their game (EAFC, NBA2K, etc..). While some may agree they’re the same game recycled over and others vehemently disagreeing, I didn’t figure they were worth a whole paragraph each. September is a hot time for these releases, so let’s go over them real quick so as not to skip them.

NBA 2K26 releases on the 6th. 2K promises to bring new animations and revamped controls to bring in a new player base. NHL 26 will come on the 12th and includes new gameplay changes and reworked modes. Skate releases on the 16th bringing modern changes to a classic game. Finally, FIFA EAFC 26 will release on the 25th bringing new gameplay and features.

Are there any new games you’re looking forward to not included? Be sure to add them below in the comments so we can all check it out!
